A fairer world - The Tasmanian Center for Global Learning

Take action

"Be the change you want to see in the world."
Gandhi

Ten things you can do to take action for a fairer world:

  1. Learn more about global issues – the causes of poverty, conflict and environmental problems and possible solutions.

  2. Make a personal commitment to be a part of the solution. Read about Tasmanian local heroes and school action.

  3. Reduce your use of non-renewable, carbon-producing energy:

  4.     - Buy a low emission, fuel-efficient car or a bicycle
        - Walk, use public transport, or share cars
  5. Buy less stuff.  Read our page on consumerism.

  6. Buy from fair trade, environmentally and socially responsible businesses.

  7. Join or volunteer with an organisation that’s making a difference.

  8. Eat less meat.

  9. Open a bank account or superannuation fund with a socially responsible financial institution.

  10. Conserve energy and water at home. Sign up to the Environment Challenge or get your school involved in the Sustainable Living Competition.

  11. Watch less mainstream TV and find alternative media sources
