| “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity
and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act
towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.” (Article 1, Universal
Declaration of Human Rights) |

Criteria
Award winners are selected from those who are actively engaged
in a voluntary capacity in the promotion/protection of human rights
relevant to the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights and have made a major
contribution in their field.
It is expected that the activities will have taken place in a
context relating to:
- The promotion of equal opportunity and anti-discrimination for the
dignity and rights of all human beings
- Increasing understanding of human rights for the promotion of
greater respect and harmony between those of different gender,
religions, races, colour or ethnic and social backgrounds and
abilities
- Working with people with intellectual, physical, sensory or
psychiatric disabilities
- The promotion and protection of the rights of young people and
children
- The promotion of civil, political and social rights
- Working for peace
In making the awards the following factors will be taken into
consideration:Impact of the person/s’ or organisation/s’ work in terms of
community awareness being increased and that the area has become one
of community concern Amount of time and resources that have been devoted to the
activity
Degree to which cooperation, harmony and growth in
public understanding have occurred
Extent to which
initiative and innovative practices
have been demonstrated
Degree to which the work has been undertaken on a
voluntary
basis
