The Committee co-ordinates activities to celebrate Human Rights Week every December, centred on the United Nations Day for Human Rights. The aim of the week is to promote knowledge and understanding amongst Tasmanians about human rights, what human rights are and how to defend them. The Committee also promotes knowledge and understanding about the state of human rights elsewhere in the world, how it touches us and how we can help others to claim and protect their rights.

The Committee welcomes interest and assistance. Members include individuals with an interest in human rights as well as  representatives from:

  • Amnesty International
  • Women’s International League for Peace Freedom
  • Oxfam Australia
  • Tasmanian Centre for Global Learning
  • United Nations Association of Australia
  • Youth Network of Tasmania
  • Migrant Resource Centre
  • Women With Disabilities Australia
  • Tasmanian Council for Sexual & Gender Diverse People
  • Tasmanian Council of Social Service
  • Hobart City Council
  • Hobart Community Legal Centre
  • Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner
